Our Story

The West Africa Press & Civic Space Observatory is a platform dedicated to tracking and documenting the state of press freedom and civic space across the region. We believe that a free press and open civic space are the foundation of a thriving democracy. Yet, across West Africa, journalists face harassment, civic groups are restricted, and information is often suppressed.
